Spotlight on Spryfield – Hiking

The Williams Lake Conservation Company and the Captain William Spry Community Library are hosting a series of talks by local experts on the amazing natural environment we live in. Topics include hiking trails, fishing for newbies, birding skills, identifying wild edible plants and wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.
Spryfield is surrounded by many city and provincial parks that nature lovers, outdoor sporty folks, birders and hikers from all over HRM use and enjoy. So let’s start this series with talking about hiking.
Michael Haynes is Canada’s most published author on trail guides, and he has hiked many of the trails in this area. Michael will tell some trail tales, discuss the development, sustainability and conservation of trails. He is a leading authority on the importance of active transportation in our area. He has authored fifteen trail guides, including Hiking Trails of Cape Breton, Trails of Halifax Regional Municipality, and the two-volume The Best of The Great Trail.
