The ice looks inviting… but take care!

Did you know that Halifax Regional Municipality has discontinued reporting ice thickness on lakes? Before heading out to enjoy your favourite ice activities, please ensure the ice is an appropriate thickness and quality. Ice can vary significantly across a body of water depending on many variables such as current, depth, and the presence of springs and inlets/outlets – of which Williams Lake has many!

Many sources recommend only skating on solid, clear ice thicker than 8″, while walking and skiing may be safe on ice thicker than 4″.
