Spotlight on Spryfield – Edible and Endangered Plants

Ecology Action Centre logo

Let’s get to know a few of our plant neighbours in the Spryfield area of Halifax. Karen McKendry, of the Ecology Action Centre (EAC), will discuss and explore edible, interesting and rare plants, and their fascinating lives in the Backlands and the Williams Lake watershed. She will also discuss ethical foraging and plant conservation to ensure our plant neighbours are around for centuries to come. There will also be time to share your foraging tips and recipes.

Karen is an environmental activist and nature educator. She advocates for more nature conservation and parks in Nova Scotia, for all the benefits that these protected areas provide. Her professional background is in conservation biology, and she shares her knowledge and expertise through leading guided hikes in wilderness areas. When not at work, Karen goes trail running in the Backlands, snagging a few berries along the way.

Join us at the library for this “Spotlight on Spryfield” event, hosted by the Williams Lake Conservation Company and the Captain William Spry Community Library. We support the principles of sustainability, conservation and preservation of the natural environment which surrounds our Spryfield area for everyone. Forever!
