Fluctuating Lake Levels – Normal and Temporary
By: Murray Coolican, WLCC president

With cooler temperatures, reduced evaporation, and fall rain events, the fluctuating lake levels impact the temporary coffer dam at the construction site of the new Williams Lake dam. The coffer dam protects the busy work site. Keeping the lake level low is critical to minimize the hydraulic pressure on the temporary coffer dam.
As wet fall weather fills the lake, dewatering equipment pumps water out of the lake to lower the level to protect the coffer dam. You will continue to see fluctuations of lake levels as construction of the new dam progresses. A completion date is projected for the beginning of the new year! (emphasis added)
