Clean Team Tackles Pine Bluff Islands Park
Community Entrance to Williams Lake
By: Cathy Vaughan
Loads of mucky junk, bags of yucky plastic, several muddy tires, 5 large creosote-soaked railroad ties and pounds of broken glass were hauled out of Williams Lake at the HRM Pine Bluff Islands Park community entrance by WLCC volunteer directors and neighbours.
Garbage in the lake endangers not only the folks who use the lake – it also harms wildlife, destroys habitat and affects the water quality.
Stepping up to clean up!

Plastics break down into tiny toxic particles and enter the freshwater food chain. Fish, turtles and birds mistake plastic bags, wrappers, and 6-pack rings for a food source. The creosote railroad ties leach toxic pollutants and heavy metals directly into the lake. To name just a few noxious issues!

Every effort helps keep Williams Lake healthy and a safe, happy place!
