Early this morning we heard the faint cry…
…Moments later, the first loon we’ve spotted this year popped up from a dive.

April 7th is International Beaver Day. Beavers are a common sight on Williams Lake and vicinity, but it’s rare to see a pair of them together on the shore. Click READ MORE to view our gallery of a recent visit. Click on the gallery image twice for a full-sized copy.

You can help create an urban wilderness park in the Halifax Regional Municipality: The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) has proposed a 379-acre (153-hectare) urban wilderness park in the Williams Lake area of Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM), bordering on the Purcell’s Cove Backlands.

If you are considering a donation to the Nature Conservancy of Canada, this Tuesday is the time to do it. Donations to the NCC will be doubled on Giving Tuesday.
For details, see the NCC’s Giving Tuesday link with “Read More.”

On behalf of Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC), I want to thank you all for your support of the proposal to create an Urban Wilderness Park within the Williams-Colpitt Lake portion of the Backlands. Your letters, emails and presence at City Hall for the vote clearly demonstrated to Council that people care about this place. The 14-1 vote to pursue detailed discussions was a victory in itself.
