The Nova Scotia government is currently considering a proposal to permanently protect a 505-hectare area of Crown Land in the Halifax Backlands wilderness area in Spryfield, pending public consultation!

You have a stake and a say in protecting this unique wilderness area in our HRM community. If approved, the proposal would see the site designated as the future “Herring Cove Backlands Wilderness Area.” The protected area would centre around the lower McIntosh Run, and it accounts for more than 37% of the overall Backlands. Your input is critical. You can help add this unique piece of provincial wilderness, Crown Lands and water bodies into permanent protection.

Please complete this online form or use this hyper link https://tinyurl.com/378yap9f to give your feed back and support provincial protection for the “Herring Cove Backlands Wilderness Area” by 28 July 2026! Your feedback will help secure this land for generations.

This is truly opportune news for environmentalists, conservationists, outdoor enthusiasts and the many HRM communities who want to protect and preserve this natural, wild land.
