Huge Win: Shaw Wilderness Park expanded to protect Williams Lake shorelines

The Halifax Regional Municipality has purchased four parcels of land totaling approximately 46 hectares, located to the west of Shaw Wilderness Park, in Halifax.

Halifax Regional Municipality is updating the Urban Forest Master Plan (UFMP). Currently the plan only covers areas that are within the service boundary (water and sewer). However, there is lots of land in the Williams Lake Watershed which is undeveloped, not serviced and deserves protection.

This is such good news for our mission to protect the Backlands. As you will read below, the Nova Scotia Nature Trust has a campaign to protect 17 acres of treasured land near Purcells Pond. The Pond is a special place for quiet reflection, swimming and watching wildlife.

The Hank Rogers Music Festival is moving to the Williams Lake Backlands for its 2024 re-boot.
