Five ways you can act locally and contribute globally to World Nature Conservation Day – 2022!

Each year during National Volunteer Week, the Halifax Regional Municipality holds an award ceremony to acknowledge and honour the contributions of exceptional volunteers and dedicated volunteer organizations in HRM communities. Kathleen Hall of our Williams Lake community was recognized with an HRM 2022 Volunteer Award.

Several conservation-oriented groups in Spryfield have partnered to promote the appreciation and tradition of bird watching in the wilderness parks and community trails of Spryfield. The Williams Lake Conservation Company (WLCC) designed the “Sparrows Hawks Doves” (SHD) project and was awarded funding from the HRM Community Project Grants Program. A key goal for WLCC was to build new local alliances and to invite members of the Purcell’s Cove Backlands Coalition and the Urban Farm Museum Society of Spryfield to join in the field trips for the SHD’s bird survey. Happy Halloween, Williams lake!

The Williams Lake Conservation Company has recently begun working with Love Your Lake, “…a shoreline evaluation program developed by Watersheds Canada and the Canadian Wildlife Federation (CWF), and conducted for any shoreline community across the country by local organizations.”
