Williams Lake: A Haven for Scientific Research

Williams Lake: A Haven for Scientific Research

Professors and students from local universities make use of Williams Lake as a testing ground for their field research. And every year, scientists, academics, and researchers are drawn to study the vast array of topics that concern the lake – from hydrology (the study of water), geology, biology (animal and plant life) and geography. We thought friends of Williams Lake might like to learn about some of these research studies.

Summer water quality sampling completes

LakeWatchers Sampling Gear

Lake water properties change with depth and time of year, so these are important factors to consider when monitoring lake health. WLCC performed spring water quality sampling back in May and just completed summer sampling this past Sunday. At the deepest point in the lake (~19m), we measured water properties every meter from the surface to the bottom.

Bird surveys, LakeWatchers program, Lake Water Quality testing, HRM’s Regional Review, Backlands additions, a fix for the dam, the expansion of the Shaw Wilderness Park and more have kept us busy this year. We will be reporting on these important projects at our Annual General Meeting and invite you to join us to get a sense of how you and your family can be citizen environmentalists.
