Fire Destroys. Nature Restores.

Williams Lake Fire

There were two major fires in Spryfield in 2009 and 2012. Camp fires, near Roaches Pond, in the MacIntosh Run area started the massive fire in the spring of 2009. The ferocious blaze threatened lives, destroyed homes, razed property and incinerated acres of pristine, forested barrens in the Purcells Cove Conservation Lands. More than 100 firefighters and five water bombers were used to fight the inferno.

The Williams Lake Conservation Company is partnering with the Canadian Wildlife Federation and Watersheds Canada to bring you their successful shoreline evaluation program, Love Your Lake.

In the coming days volunteers from the WLCC will be knocking on the doors of lakeshore property homes to distribute an information package about the Love Your Lake and a survey of your interests and thoughts on your use of the lake and your concerns

Old Sambro Road. Dangerous Deer Crossing

Deer Crossing Old Sambro Rd

The small lot at 48-50 Old Sambro Road is an important wildlife corridor. The vacant lot is a gateway for animals to move safely from Long Lake to Governors Brook to McIntosh Run and through to the Purcell’s Cove backlands. A 3-story, 13 unit apartment building would block this corridor. [Wildlife cross busy intersection to get to 48-50 Old Sambro Road. Photo: Ronnie Boutilier]
